Exciting Leadership Transition: The NDEB Appoints Dr. Stefan Haas-Jean as President

We are delighted to introduce Dr. Stefan Haas-Jean as the new President of the National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB). Dr. Haas-Jean succeeds Dr. Amarjit Singh Rihal who served as President for the preceding two years.

Dr. Haas-Jean’s role as President begins as the NDEB implements a new strategic plan. This new action-oriented plan focuses on the maintenance of high-level exam delivery and services for candidates while keeping pace with and adapting to changes in the health care environment.

Dr. Haas-Jean is not new to the NDEB nor to the Board and is therefore well versed in the strategic challenges and opportunities facing the NDEB. He has been a member of the Executive Committee since 2018. During his tenure with the NDEB, Dr. Haas-Jean has also served as Chair of the Examinations Committee and Treasurer.

Dr. Marie Dagenais, NDEB’s Executive Director and Registrar, noted, “Stefan’s appointment ushers in a new phase in the evolution of the NDEB. I am delighted that a person of Stefan’s skills and experience will be leading us forward and I am eager to work with him to implement the Board’s renewed strategic plan.”

It is said that when you really need to get a job done, ask a busy person to do it. This is certainly true for Dr. Haas-Jean. Aside from his dental practice in Montreal, he teaches diagnosis and emergency dentistry at the Faculté de médecine dentaire de l’Université of Montréal and serves on the organizing committee for the Journées dentaires internationales du Québec (JDIQ). And if that wasn’t enough, he is the president of the Professional Inspection Committee of the Ordre des dentistes du Québec.

Dr. Haas-Jean reflected on his new appointment, saying, “It is a great honour to be appointed to a position to lead a group of people I deeply respect. I am looking forward to working with the Board and staff to take the NDEB into the future; meeting current and future challenges while retaining the integrity of our mission.”
