Equivalency Process Exam Results

The Equivalency Process for graduates of non-accredited dental programs comprises three examinations. Successful completion of the Equivalency Process makes candidates eligible to sit the the national certification examination which is required for licensure as a general dentist in Canada. The examinations must be taken in sequential order beginning with the Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge (AFK). The results provided below are for all examinations delivered in a calendar year.

Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge (AFK)

The AFK is a multiple-choice examination that tests biomedical science and applied clinical science knowledge.

Assessment of Clinical Judgement (ACJ)

The ACJ consists of single-answer and multi-answer multiple-choice type questions. Case-based diagnosis, treatment planning and clinical decision-making questions evaluate the candidate’s ability to formulate a diagnosis and to make clinical decisions.

NDECC

The NDECC has two components. The clinical skills component assesses clinical skills and techniques relevant to current Canadian standards. The situational judgement component assesses judgement required for solving problems in work related situations. Results for the NDECC are reported by component.
