A Roadmap for the Next Five Years
In January, we rolled out a new strategic plan.
With the conclusion of our 2019-2024 strategic priorities, we reflect on a five-year plan that has guided our efforts in advancing the oral health in Canada and establishing effective methods for assessing the competence of dentists. This past five years, we have navigated changes in the healthcare landscape, requiring adaptability and innovation.
Approved by the Board in November 2024 and officially in effect as of January 2025, our new strategic plan sets a strong foundation for the future. It ensures that the NDEB upholds excellence in developing and administering examinations while supporting candidates in their journey toward certification.
Our Mission
The NDEB remains committed in its mission to support oral health in Canada by providing a fair, valid, and reliable evaluation of dental competence. A significant focus of the new strategic plan is to continue streamlining processes to reduce the time required for candidates to become licensed, without compromising the integrity of examination.
The new five-year strategic plan focuses on four key priorities:
- Recognize the diverse needs of the candidate pool and develop processes to support them toward certification.
- Promote value of competency-based testing for the profession through structured communications.
- Leverage information technology to improve service delivery.
- Invest in research to inform decision making, and exam development and delivery.
This new strategic direction was developed through the collaboration and support of key stakeholders, the NDEB management team, and the Board, ensuring a comprehensive and forward-thinking approach.
