Dr. James Richardson appointed new President of the NDEB
On October 24, 2020, Dr. James (Jim) Richardson was appointed President of the NDEB. A graduate of the University of British Columbia (UBC) with a Doctor of Dental Medicine in 1984, Dr. Richardson first entered practice as a Captain in the Canadian Forces Dental Corps, completing his obligatory service with the Canadian Forces in 1987. Subsequently, he entered a small group dental practice and served as Director of Hospital Dentistry at Peace Arch General Hospital managing the community dentist emergency on-call service. He was active with the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia on the Peer Review Committee and in 2000 he left general practice and began teaching at UBC.
During his time at UBC, Dr. Richardson completed his Master of Educational Technology degree. This interest in educational technology led him to adopt evidence based innovative technologies to enhance student learning, as well as online developments to create operational efficiencies in patient care.
In 2009 Dr. Richardson was appointed as the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbias representative to the NDEB. Since then, he has served the NDEB in several capacities: as an examiner, as a member of various standing committees, as an NDEB representative to the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada (CDAC), and most recently as Assistant Chief Examiner for the Assessment of Clinical Judgement and NDEB Vice-President/Treasurer.
Dr. Richardsons extensive and wide-range of experience in academia, community dentistry and in introducing new technologies aligns perfectly with our organizational goals, stated Dr. Marie Dagenais, NDEB Executive Director and Registrar. He brings timely knowledge and great energy to the table, and we all look forward to working with him in this new capacity.
Dr. Richardson has been the recipient of two UBC Dentistry Part-Time Faculty Teaching Awards, and in 2010 he received the Association of Canadian Faculties of Dentistrys W.W. Wood Award for Excellence in Dental Education. He has been inducted as a fellow into both the American College of Dentists (2013) and the International College of Dentists (2015).
