NDEB administers first electronic exam
On September 7, 2018, the NDEB administered its first computer-based examination at Prometric testing centres in Canada.
The Dental Specialty Core Knowledge Examination (DSCKE) was administered flawlessly to a small cohort of examinees. This is a major milestone in our conversion to delivering multiple-choice type examinations digitally, said Marie Dagenais Executive Director and Registrar. Our team has been working on this project for a number of years and is pleased to see a positive outcome.
Next up for the NDEB is the transition of the Assessment of Clinical Judgement (ACJ) to the digital platform for the May 2019 administration. The cohort for the ACJ will be significantly larger than that of the DSCKE; however, the NDEB intends to make all Prometric test centers world-wide available to participants, allowing for easier access and decreased travel expenses.
The NDEB plans to provide participants for the ACJ with information about the new format of the assessment well in advance of test day. Like the DSCKE, an e-exam tutorial will be made available as well as a practice test to help participants familiarize themselves with the user interface and functionality of the online platform. While computer-based tests are not new, we want participants to feel confident taking the assessment in this new format and that the technology does not become part of the test.
