Application to the Equivalency Process requires credential verification by the NDEB. Select the country where you obtained your undergraduate dental degree from the list below. Then follow the document requirements specific for your country.

Before submitting required documents, you must create an online profile. Always refer to the criteria for required documents available in your online portal.

All documents listed below are required for credential verification. Read the descriptions and follow the submission requirements exactly. Documents that are submitted incorrectly will not be accepted.

Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes so it may be useful to have the Application Guide and your questions prepared ahead of time.

  • Identification

    Notarized photocopy of one of the listed government issued photo identifications.

  • Difference in Name

    By the applicant

    Notarized photocopy of proof of name change or original sworn affidavit for difference in name, if the name that appears on any document is different than the name on your government issued photo identification.

  • Canadian Citizenship or Proof of Permanent Residency

    By the applicant

    If you are a Canadian resident and would like to provide proof of residency, you can submit a notarized photocopy of one of the documents listed in the Application Guide. This is not required to take an NDEB examination.

  • Degree

    By the applicant

    A good quality notarized colour photocopy of the front and back of your final Degree (Doctor of Dentistry) in the original language issued.

    You must also submit an accurate, word-for-word translation of the degree done by a certified translator which meets the criteria outlined in the definitions section. Official translations done in Iran must be validated by the Iranian Judiciary and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • Internship

    Not required.

  • Confirmation of Degree Form

    Directly by the issuing university

    Completed NDEB Confirmation of Degree Form received directly from the university confirming program length as per the academic record and date the degree was issued/conferred.  Download the Confirmation of Degree Form from your online profile and follow the instructions on page 1.

  • Academic Record

    Directly by the issuing university

    Official academic record (متن رکوردها / متن سوابق/Transcript of Records) listing all courses taken through each year of the program and the results.

    Applicants should request a copy attested by the appropriate university official in the instance that no other original academic record will be issued.  All documents received from the university become the property of the NDEB and will not be returned to the university, sent to you, or any third party.

    The applicant’s NDEB identification number or name in English or French must be with the academic record if it is not sent with the Confirmation of Degree Form.

    You must also submit an accurate, word-for-word translation of the academic record done by a certified translator which meets the criteria outlined in the definitions section. Official translations done in Iran must be validated by the Iranian Judiciary and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

  • Statements of Good Standing

    Directly by the licensing body

    A letter or certificate issued by all licensing bodies in which you were licensed, confirming that you are or were entitled to practice in the jurisdiction and that you were not disqualified, suspended, or prohibited from practising, and the regulatory authority is not aware of any matters that call into question your good standing, fitness to practise or ‘good character’ as a healthcare professional.

All requirements are subject to change. The NDEB’s credential verification process is reviewed regularly and updated to align with best practices in credential verification.

Definitions

Notarized
  • Notarized photocopies must bear the original seal and signature of a Notary Public or a Commissioner of Oaths
  • The Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths must make a photocopy of the original degree issued by the university or other original documents and place their stamp or seal on the photocopied document. Do not photocopy the document yourself
  • The seal or notary statement must state that the document is a true copy of the original document seen by the Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths who has notarized the document
  • Original seals must display the credentials of the individual in English or French. Translated seals will not be accepted
  • If you are unable to have document(s) notarized by a local Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths, whose credentials are in English or French, you may have an Officer of a Canadian Consulate or Canadian Embassy make a notarized photocopy of your document(s).

Original translation
  • must be done by a certified translator, and bear the original seal and signature of the certified translator
  • must be secured by the certified translator to a photocopy of the original document that was translated. Documents paper clipped together will not be accepted
  • the certified translator must place their seal and initial or signature on all pages
  • original seals must display the name and credentials of the certified translator in English or French. Translated seals will not be accepted
  • A translation done or attested by a school official, such as a Dean or Registrar, or a notarized photocopy of a translation will not be accepted.

Certified translator
  • an individual who has been evaluated by a translation authority and holds a licence, issued by a government recognized translation
    association, to perform legal translations

Academic Record
  • is a complete record of all courses taken and individual grades obtained from all dental schools or faculties attended throughout all years of the program
  • must indicate the dates you attended the program
  • an academic record issued by an affiliated college will not be accepted

The NDEB’s mandate is to establish a standard of competence for general dentists in Canada and to test applicants to ensure they meet those standards. Dental Regulatory Authorities, governments, and the Canadian public expect the NDEB to verify the qualifications of an applicant before allowing the applicant to take the required assessments and examinations. The NDEB’s document requirements are based on best practice and research and reviewed annually.

Frequently Asked Questions

If your country is not on the list, you must send us all pertaining information on your program and university, with links when applicable. The NDEB will confirm your eligibility to apply to the Equivalency Process within a few weeks.
Yes, if your university or regulator is unable to submit hard-copy documents, they can send a scanned copy of your document, attested by the appropriate authority, directly to the NDEB by email. Documents must be sent from an official, traceable email account, and include the name and position of the appropriate authority. Emails from generic email accounts, such as Yahoo, Gmail, Hotmail, Rediffmail, or otherwise, will not be accepted. Please request that your NDEB identification number be included in the subject of the email. Official documents are also accepted from approved online digital services, such as My eQuals, Parchment, Credential Solutions, Digitary Core, Docs Wallet, Student Clearing House, World Document Services, and CSSD.
