Special Notice

The NDEB has paused appointment booking until May 6, 2024. Applicants who currently have an appointment scheduled will still receive a phone call from a credential verification specialist as scheduled.

Application to the Equivalency Process requires credential verification by the NDEB. Select the country where you obtained your undergraduate dental degree from the list below. Then follow the document requirements specific for your country.

Before submitting required documents, you must create an online profile. Always refer to the criteria for required documents available in your online portal.

All documents listed below are required for credential verification. Read the descriptions and follow the submission requirements exactly. Documents that are submitted incorrectly will not be accepted.

All requirements are subject to change. The NDEB’s credential verification process is reviewed regularly and updated to align with best practices in credential verification.

Before making an appointment to speak with a credential verification specialist, make sure you have fully read the Application Guide as well as the information by country of education.

Appointments will be limited to 15 minutes so it may be useful to have the Application Guide and your questions prepared ahead of time. The specialist will call you at the phone number given on your online profile at the scheduled time.

Definitions

Notarized
  • Notarized photocopies must bear the original seal and signature of a Notary Public or a Commissioner of Oaths
  • The Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths must make a photocopy of the original degree issued by the university or other original documents and place their stamp or seal on the photocopied document. Do not photocopy the document yourself
  • The seal or notary statement must state that the document is a true copy of the original document seen by the Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths who has notarized the document
  • Original seals must display the credentials of the individual in English or French. Translated seals will not be accepted
  • If you are unable to have document(s) notarized by a local Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths, whose credentials are in English or French, you may have an Officer of a Canadian Consulate or Canadian Embassy make a notarized photocopy of your document(s).

Original translation
  • must be done by a certified translator, and bear the original seal and signature of the certified translator
  • must be secured by the certified translator to a photocopy of the original document that was translated. Documents paper clipped together will not be accepted
  • the certified translator must place their seal and initial or signature on all pages
  • original seals must display the name and credentials of the certified translator in English or French. Translated seals will not be accepted
  • A translation done or attested by a school official, such as a Dean or Registrar, or a notarized photocopy of a translation will not be accepted.

Certified translator
  • an individual who has been evaluated by a translation authority and holds a licence, issued by a government recognized translation
    association, to perform legal translations

Academic Record
  • is a complete record of all courses taken and individual grades obtained from all dental schools or faculties attended throughout all years of the program
  • must indicate the dates you attended the program
  • an academic record issued by an affiliated college will not be accepted

The NDEB’s mandate is to establish a standard of competence for general dentists in Canada and to test applicants to ensure they meet those standards. Dental Regulatory Authorities, governments, and the Canadian public expect the NDEB to verify the qualifications of an applicant before allowing the applicant to take the required assessments and examinations. The NDEB’s document requirements are based on best practice and research and reviewed annually.

If your country is not on the list, you must send us all pertaining information on your program and university, with links when applicable. The NDEB will confirm your eligibility to apply to the Equivalency Process within a few weeks.
