Act of Parliament
The NDEB was set up by an Act of Parliament in 1952 with a mandate to establish qualifying conditions for a national standard of competence for general dentists and to issue certificates to dentists who successfully meet the standard.

The NDEB By-laws govern the operations of the organization, including the duties and responsibilities of the Board, committees, examinations, and appeal procedures. The By-laws are reviewed and revised regularly by the By-laws Committee and approved by the Board.
