Dr. Doug Mackey elected NDEB President

The National Dental Examining Board of Canada (NDEB) is pleased to announce that Dr. Doug Mackey was elected the new NDEB President at the Annual Meeting on October 22, 2016.

Dr. Mackey originally hails from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador and studied Music and Education at Memorial University. In 1993, he moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia where he attended Dalhousie University and received his Bachelor of Science in 1995 and his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1999. Since his graduation from Dalhousie’s Faculty of Dentistry, Dr. Mackey has maintained a full-time private dental practice in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia.

In 2008, Dr. Mackey was appointed by the Provincial Dental Board of Nova Scotia (PDBNS) to be its representative on the NDEB Board. Since then, he has served the NDEB in several capacities, both as an examiner and as a member of various committees. In 2012, Dr. Mackey was elected to the NDEB Executive Committee and from 2014-2016 served as Treasurer and Vice-President of the Board. “I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Mackey in various capacities over the years. Dr. Mackey embraces each new challenge with enthusiasm and professionalism and I look forward to working with him in his new role as President” Dr. Jack Gerrow, Executive Director and Registrar.

On the provincial level, Dr. Mackey is the Chair of the Mandatory Continuing Dental Education Committee of the PDBNS and is a part-time instructor at Dalhousie University’s Faculty of Dentistry. He also continues to use his musical training in various community projects.
